Inter-School Science Speech Contest
Competitions play an important role in motivating students to improve their performance and offer a lot more reward than just winning prize. Competitions offer a chance for participants to gain substantial experience, showcase skills, analyze and evaluate outcomes and uncover personal aptitude. Competitions also encourage students to adopt innovative techniques and develop their ideas and skills.
Shaunak Saxena, a proud Edifier of Grade 9 took part in the maiden science speech competition conceived and organized by National Public School – Banashankari. The name of the competition was Sci – Quest, and the program started with an invocation song by the school choir. The judges along with the Principal of the school, Ms. Grace C.D lit the lamp to mark the inauguration of the competition.
The welcome speech was given by the Principal and the rules of the Sci – Quest were explained by Ms. Srilatha Sharma, the HOD of the Science department and the convener of the event. After this the junior speech contest started where students from grades 8 to 10 participated. There were 9 participants in this category, and Shaunak spoke at no. 4. The topic on which he spoke was “Foam lakes in Bangalore”.
This was followed by the senior speech contest wherein students from Grades 11 and 12 participated. The judges for the 1st Sci – Quest competition were – Ms. Purnima Kumarswamy – Ex – Principal of Sindhi Public School and a renowned Biologist. The second judge was Ms. Malathy Menon who is a senior post graduate teacher of Chemistry. There were 2 In – House judges – Ms. Sandhya Mohan and Ms. Jayarekha. All the four judges deliberated and arrived at the result of the competition.
All the participants received a participation certificates. The Sci – Quest was a great learning experience for all, especially the participants as well as for Shaunak, which will help him in preparing for other future competitions.
