International World Yoga Day
The International Yoga Day was celebrated with a number activities spread across three days at Edify School, Kanakapura, Bangalore.
During the School Assembly on 19th June the students of Grade X made speeches to create awareness on the importance and advantages of practicing Yoga in our life.
On the 20th June, a special assembly was held for the entire school from Grade 1-10, during which the students brought out the importance of yoga in our life through a role play. This was followed by a sequential performance of Surya Namaskara, salutations to Lord Surya (The Sun), the giver of energy to the world, for self vitalization, chanting the 12 mantras or names of Surya by 12 students. The 12 mantras are the different names of Sun God and with each posture, a particular mantra was chanted.
The celebration of the International World Yoga Day culminated on 21st June with an hour long yoga session organized for Students of Grade III-X along with their facilitators at Edify school, Bengaluru.
Ms. Sangamitra welcomed the Yoga Instructors, Ms. Karishma, Ms. Archana and Ms.Shruthi who are associated with Art of Living Ashram, Bengaluru.
The yoga session started with warm up exercises. Students were guided to perform various asanas through detailed instructions. They performed asanas like- Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Mandookasana, Vajrasana, Bhadrasana, Ardha-ushtrasana, Shashankasana, Shalbhasana and Bhujangasana. Each yogasana was explained by the yoga instructors along with its benefits. Precise and clear instructions were given to facilitate students and staff to perform their asanas to their best.
The yoga session culminated with a breathing exercise, Pranayama (Kapalbhati, Sudanta, Shitali) and meditation. All the students and the facilitators felt rejuvenated after performing the various asanas.
Ms. Navya proposed the vote of thanks and as a gesture of gratitude Ms. Poonam AA- Primary, presented saplings to the yoga instructors. The event was concluded with singing the National Anthem.
