Edify Hoists the Spirit of Kannada Rajyotsava and Children’s Day

Immersed in Arrishna and Kumkuma, the 62nd Kannada Rajyotsava and the joy and freedom of Children’s Day were celebrated with great vigour and fervour on November 14, 2017 in the school. The day’s celebration started with the singing of Nada Geethe "Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate” and the School Pledge in Kannada followed by the lighting of lamp ceremony and invocation song. The welcome speech rendered by Ms. Neelam Sharma, the Academic Administrator of Secondary in Kannada was a clear indication that Kannada isn’t a foreign tongue to the non- kannadigas.

Ms. Rupa Sur, the Academic Administrator, Pre-Primary spoke on the importance of Children’s Day as an occasion to appreciate and give tribute to the noble soul of Chacha Nehru who loved children unconditionally. It is also a day to cherish and celebrate the free spirit of childhood and a day to tell every student of Edify that they are always loved by their dear facilitators. The facilitators of Pre-primary and Primary Sections also performed a colourful Kolata (stick dance) to entertain the children on this special day.

Ms. Trisha of grade VIII spoke enthusiastically on the importance of Kannada Rajyotsava followed by a group song by grade VI-X students praising the beautiful land of Kannadigas. Kannadakkagi janana dance by the students from grade 3 to 5 made the programme even more colourful. The legends of Karnataka literature including Kuvempu, Akka Mahadevi, Basavanna, D.V. Gundappa, and D.R. Bendre appeared on the stage with their special messages and wishes in the fancy dress show. Bhagyada Balegara dance by the secondary students and the skit on Tenali Rama by students from grade III-V enthralled the audience. The Nruthya Rupaka performance by the senior students was enticing too.

In her speech, Ms. Daisy Bastian the Headmistress wholeheartedly appreciated the students and teachers for putting up such a wondrous show. Mr. Shesha Murthy, the CEAA of the school expressed his craving to see all the staff and students speaking the land’s language by the next Kannada Rajyotsava to make the celebration more meaningful. The day’s celebration came to an end with the vote of thanks by Ms. Poonam Mitra, the Academic Administrator of Primary Department in Kannada followed by the National Anthem.
