    IK's-Compost Making Activity

‘Turn your spoil into soil as composts make plants happy’

One of the first steps in changing food culture is to develop a food growing area at school. A key part of this is having an effective composting system in place. This is a cornerstone of organic gardening and has many benefits to the school, community and environment. Making compost is not only about providing soil and plants with a source of food; it is an integral part of working organically and reducing waste.
Children of IKs (Pre-Primary) enthusiastically involved in a compost making activity on 17th November, 2017. The main objective of the activity was to teach the children the importance of waste management system and ensure their active involvement in it. Children have learnt that different materials including dry leaves, dry flowers etc. can in fact be put in a “mixed” compost bin.
It was an informative activity to make children aware that organic matter can be decomposed and recycled as a fertilizer to amend soil and compost is a key ingredient in organic farming.
