    Grade 7 Field Trip
    Meenakshi Temple, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru

As an extended learning of the curriculum, the students of Grade VII were taken to Meenakshi Temple, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru for a field trip escorted by two teachers. The purpose of the visit was to explore and experience the incredible heritage of our country.

Meenakshi temple is the master piece of Dravidian style of architecture. The architecture of the temple is typical of temples in Tamil Nadu. A compound wall and tall gopuram with beautiful sculptures of idols on it welcome a devotee. On entering the temple, we have the darshan of Dwajasthama and Nandi. Then we have the view of the temple open hall. It has beautiful carvings of marriage of Shiva and Parvati and of Hindu deities and incidents from Puranas. Mother Meenakshi and Sundershwara have separate sanctum sanctorum. The outer walls of both the sanctum have sculptures. Both the Meenakshi shrine and the Sundareswarar shrine are huge temples in themselves– with their own sets of 2 prakarams mahamandapams and gold plated vimanams.

Facilitators escorted the children around the gallery explaining and answering the queries of the children. On the whole, the field trip to the Meenakshi temple gave a closer picture about the incredible heritage of our country and gave an opportunity to explore experiment, question, discover and fall in love with the subject. Our children returned back to school from the elegance of the past, rejuvenate and fresh with full of innovative ideas.
