    Coffee Morning-Grades 3A & 3B

The coffee morning was organized for the parents of the students of Grade 3 A and 3 B on Saturday 11/11/2017. The coffee morning is a unique way to present the inquiry cycle by students. Students display their knowledge and understanding about the content on a platform where parents and facilitators are the audience. The main idea of this event is to facilitate a healthy rapport between the parents and the facilitators which helps in building up a strong base for the overall development of the child.

At the onset, parents were shown a parent movie of School Cinema. The movie was based on the child abuse and the title of the movie was “Beyond Belief”. Academic Administrator-Primary, Ms. Poonam Mitra welcomed the gathering and stressed how important it is to fulfil ones’ childhood dream. She also spoke about the importance of coffee morning. HRT of Grade 3B, Ms. Paramita Bardhan spoke about the holistic development of the child through 3C curriculum. The students of Grade 3 showcased their learning under Inquiry Module I in the form of display as well as dynamic presentations.

The students presented Central Idea IM-I: Every country has special features that distinguish it from other countries. The presentation highlighted the special features of each country around the world and the impact of these features in bringing change to the people’s lives. They spoke about the learning cycle and the six different stages of inquiry module using the power point presentation as a tool. Students explained about Roger Hart’s ladder and they pointed out that they have achieved the rung 7 of Roger Hart’s ladder of young people’s participation. They took initiative to motivate and guide people to take action to save our mother earth. In Making Connection stage the inquiry module was integrated with languages (English, Hindi and Kannada) and co-scholastic activities (art/music/sports). In making connection with English, students sang a melodious song on 7 continents. A television talk show “Yatra” was presented in Hindi by the students on different features found in seven continents of the world, followed by a Kannada song (Jogada Siri Belakinalli). In co-scholastic, the students performed a dance which represented all the seven continents. A student of Grade 3 B played guitar, making connection with the instrumental music. In sports, the students demonstrated the popular games from different countries. On the final countdown, there was a song to spread awareness to save our mother planet.

Children were very proud to share the profiles they achieved. The parents were requested to provide feedback in the form of rubrics. Overall, the feedback received for the entire program was excellent.
